Review: Model Co SHINE Ultra Lip Gloss in showgirl red

Today, I received the Model Co Shine Ultra Lip Gloss in showgirl red and thought I'd review it.

So that's what the lip gloss looks like. Firstly I'd like to talk about the product packaging.

I love it. The tube is thin and slender which makes it really easy to transport. It can fit easily in handbags and clutches of all sizes which is always a bonus. I especially love the inbuilt mirror, it's extremely practical and easy to clean. Don't get me wrong, the No Mirror Makeup Challenge is hilarious to watch on you tube, but I personally love having a mirror on hand when I'm on the go and wish more lip glosses had.

Now, onto the lip gloss itself. I've taken a look online and the lip gloss is described as having a non-sticky formula. Compared to some other lip glosses I've used, it is slightly sticky when applied to the lips, but it's nothing that would make me hate using.

When I looked at the tube, I was super excited, the colour looked vibrant, glossy, and had a bit of shimmer. However, I was very disappointed when I used it.
The lip gloss is called 'Showgirl Red' and personally, I thought it looked of a berry pink then a red. My lips are naturally a dark pink/red and this lip gloss was barely noticeable on my lips even with a thick layer on. If you bought this lip gloss assuming it would be a vibrant, sexy red, you'll be let down as it only gives a subtle tint.

It also has an amazing cherry scent.

All in all, I think it was an alright lip gloss, I'm not going to complain as I got it for free, but I did have high hopes for it being a bold colour and was let down.
I love subtle pink tints, but with sort of colour, and the name "Showgirl Red" I would have much preferred something more opaque.

DIY: Making Nailpolish - five easy steps

So I don't know about you all, but I have a serious obsession with nailpolish, probably more so than the obsessiona I have with makeup and shopping.

But this isn't AA, I don't want to stop my obsession, I want to fuel it. And what better way to obtain a larger nailpolish collection then to make it?   ☺

To make you're own nail polish you'll need just a few things that I know every girl owns or are very easy to find.

  • 1 empty bottle of cheap, dry or unwanted nailpolish you won't miss OR an empty nail polish bottle
  • Some nailpolish top coat
  • 1 toothpick
  • Pigmented eyeshadow of your choice
  • Some paper of a plastic lid [OPTIONAL]   -  this is just to test the colour before making it.

Step 1

First make sure you clean out the nailpolish bottle you want to put your new nail polish in, if you don't want to tip an old nailpolish down the drain, you could always use the bottle the clear nail varnish is in.  If you clean it with acetone, make sure to rinse it after and let it dry and the acetone will thin out the nailpolish.

Step 2

Your eyeshadow is going to be the colour your nailpolish will be, so choose an eyeshaow, you can use loose powder, or simply scrape off some eyeshadow with the toothpick.  Make sure not to scrape off too much, you can always add more later.

Step 3

If you want to test the colour first, put the eyeshadow you've just scraped off onto a plastic container lid, or just a peice of A4 paper like I have. If you know you're happy with the colour, create a funnel with some paper and put the eyeshadow powder in the nailpolish bottle you previously cleaned.

Step 4

Pour some clear nail polish (nail topcoat) onto the eyeshadow powder and mix. REMEMBER, you should have double the amount of nailpolish comapired to the eyeshadow powder.

Step 5

Mix together and paint your nails. If the density is too thick, you can thin it out with a TINY drop or acetone. Be careful not to add too much.

If you couldn't already tell, I used really cheap eyeshadow palletes and quads, they turned out great.
